If left untreated, periodontal disease can cause pain and tooth loss. It can also lead to heart, liver, or kidney disease or other infections.
During the dental assessment, we look for common signs of oral health problems, including:
- Tartar and plaque buildup
- Swollen or bleeding gums
- Exposed roots
- Missing teeth
Veterinary Dental Cleaning
Based on the dental assessment, we may recommend a professional dental cleaning. Our experienced veterinary team uses the latest techniques and equipment and adheres to the American Animal Hospital Association’s guidelines for pet dental cleaning.
Your pet’s comfort is important to us, and we perform all dental procedures under general anesthesia. Each dental service includes:
- Physical exam
- Pre-dental pain medication
- Pre-dental digital x-rays (if needed)
- Pre-anesthetic blood work
- A thorough cleaning and polishing
- Careful monitoring of your pet throughout the procedure and recovery
We will notify you when your pet’s dental cleaning is complete and he or she is ready to go home. If your pet requires pain medication, your prescription can be filled at our on-site pet pharmacy.
Home Pet Dental Care
We strongly recommend a home dental care program to protect your pet’s teeth between professional dental cleanings. Our on-site pet pharmacy offers a variety of home care products. We are available to make product recommendations and to demonstrate proper at-home dental care techniques.
